Wrinkles
Lines and wrinkles are caused by different factors.
- There are facial lines that appear due to repetitive facial muscle movement from activities such as eating, drinking, speaking, and facial animation.
- With time, deep lines appear due to loss of facial elasticity and collagen. This can manifest as deep lines around the mouth that extend into the sides of the chin, often called jowl lines.
- There are very fine, crepey lines that can form from ageing skin becoming thinner. After age 40, there is a loss of about 3-4% a year of collagen.
- Dehydrated skin appears more wrinkled than well moisturized skin.
- Sun damage can contribute and exacerbate all the above conditions.
- A diet rich in sugar causes collagen to become brittle ( sugar binds to collagen) and accelerates ageing changes in skin.
- Stress, whether physical or emotional, causes the body's adrenal glands to over produce stress hormones such as cortisol, which increase the activity of enzymes that breakdown the dermal matrix.
Treatment
A combination approach of treatments is the most effective. Neuromodulators can mitigate the effects from overactive muscles.
Injectable biostimulatory agents such as Sculptra® or autologous platelet rich plasma can activate your own skin cells to produce more collagen.
Lifting and tightening using Ultherapy Prime® offer a more global treatment for face, neck , chest, arms, and abdomen.
Following an effective anti-ageing skin care plan to support collagen and moisture retention in the skin is an important adjunct to all rejuvenation procedures.
Tissue fillers can be strategically placed to either lift sagging areas of skin or refill areas where tissue has become depleted, leaving sunken areas, such as temples or along the jaws or sides of cheeks or hollowing under eyes.
