Chemical peels are another option for rejuvenating skin, clearing acne, and improving hyperpigmentation. Peels cause the skin to exfoliate and be replaced by fresh, new, healthy cells from the epidermis. Damaged skin sloughs off to reveal a smoother texture, more even tone, and increased luminosity. Efficacy is further enhanced when peels are used in conjunction with medical grade skincare products recommended by Dr. Wong.

To treat mild to moderate skin conditions, a medical grade peel composed of salicylic, lactic, pyruvic, glycolic, tartaric, and mandelic acids are combined with resorcinol, green tea, resveratrol, cucumis sativus and all-trans retinol complex in a solution that causes the skin's top layer to gently peel away. Upon shedding of the epidermis and uppermost section of the underlying dermal layers, new skin cells rise to the surface, making the skin appear smooth and luminous. A peel diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and evens tone and texture.

Peels address conditions related to ageing and sun exposure:

Dr. Wong recommends conditioning skin for four weeks prior to treatment. This can enhance effectiveness and protect the skin from unintended damage. Peels are well tolerated by most patients. Generally, any tingling, stinging or burning sensations are easily endured and usually subside within a few minutes. A cold air spray is used to calm the skin during the peel. There is no significant downtime associated with this peel, aside from a yellowish to brownish tinge to the skin for 1-3 days hours post application. Mild redness and peeling may occur; similar to having a sunburn. You will be given a skin care regimen to follow post-peel to enhance healing and hydration. You may wear make-up. Sun exposure should be avoided for one to two weeks after the procedure to avoid damaging the new healthy skin. A high SPF broad-spectrum TINTED sunscreen should be applied daily. Patients typically notice improvement after one peel, but multiple treatments frequently yield the most compelling results. Peels may be administered every three to four weeks. The number of treatments suggested depends on the extent of the condition being treated and your skin type.
