Lumenis LightSheer Diode Laser removes unwanted dark, coarse hair from virtually any body area: ears, nostrils, face, underarms, arms, bikini area, back, chest, legs, and toes. Anywhere from 6-12 treatments may be needed, depending on skin type, hair density, and specific body area. Treatments are performed every 4-6 weeks. Laser hair reduction eliminates problems associated with waxing, and shaving, such as ingrown hairs, skin irritation, skin discoloration, and folliculitis.
Important Considerations Before Treatment
Untanned skin is ideal for lasering. Tanning increases the chance of burning the skin because pigment in tanned skin competes with dark hair to absorb laser light. Tanning lowers the effectiveness of laser treatments.
What to Expect During Treatment
Numbing cream is applied 1-2 hrs. prior to treatment. The laser has a sapphire-cooled hand piece that is placed in contact with the skin to provide cooling. Immediately after treatment the skin will be temporarily red. There will be swollen bumps around the hair follicles that resemble hives. An anti-inflammatory calming gel is applied several times a day to the treated areas. Sun avoidance while healing is advisable in combination with using a broad-spectrum high SPF mineral-based sunscreen.
