Dilated blood vessels/Broken Capillaries
Dilated blood vessels can be treated by narrowband intense pulsed light or vascular laser. There is minimal downtime associated with the treatments. Patients commonly describe feeling a stinging or warm rubber band snapping sensation. A cold air spray is used to minimize discomfort. There is temporarily redness and mild selling after treatment that subsides within a few hours to a few days, depending on the number of blood vessels and size of areas that were treated. Make-up may be applied if desired.
Generally, several sessions are needed 4-6 weeks apart for best results. Applying a broad- spectrum sunscreen is essential to protect healing skin and minimize recurrence of blood vessels. Gentle skin care is advised for 7-10 days afterwards. Retinoids, facial scrubs, exfoliation products, and steaming the skin are not recommended.
