Skin Tip:  Tiptoe Through the Tulips with Shoes and Gloves. Tulip fingertip dermatitis is caused from contact with tulip bulbs. The chemical responsible for the rash is alpha-methylene-gamma-butyro-lactone. It is also present in the stems and petals of the plant, but in lower concentrations than in the bulb.
