Oral Conditions: Lip, Mouth, and Mucosal Problems

Patricia Wong, M.D

Lip and / or mouth sores, swelling, dryness, cracking can be signs of improper oral hygiene, external reactions, infection, nutritional deficiency, cancer, autoimmune disease or an underlying medical disease. A medical evaluation and appropriate laboratory tests can help determine the cause and allow proper treatment recommendations to be made.

Aging lips tend to thin and develop deep creases in the corners of the mouth as tissue recedes. Lips may become more chapped and prone to developing yeast infection. Injecting hyaluronic acid into the lips and perioral areas can help prevent these conditions.
